C2C: Cell to Community Impact Collaborative for Health Equity Research in the Rio Grande Valley
Overview
C2C was established as a research collaborative between The College of Education at UT Austin and the UTHealth School of Public Health in Brownsville, to join efforts, pool resources, and build research capacity for tackling the most pressing health disparity issues impacting the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) region in our state. As a first phase, we conducted a needs assessment focused on identifying the public health challenges of the migrant as well as the established Latin American/Latino communities in the RGV. Phase 2 will involve conducting pilot research studies that directly respond to the key issues identified in the needs assessment. Importantly, another key element of this research collaborative is our focus on capacity building, both by elevating the work and leadership of junior faculty in both institutions, and by involving students and trainees across both regions of Texas (Central Texas/Austin and the RGV) in research.
